Purpose: This document outlines the process for ordering KOH Prep 87220 [Tissue examination by KOH slide of samples
from skin, hair, or nails for fungi or ectoparasite ova or mites (eg, scabies)]. A KOH Prep is ordered in Epic as a Point of
Care Testing (POCT). This process allows Epic’s electronic health record (EHR) to capture and display results in the
patient’s chart, enabling faster clinical decisions. POCT in Epic provides rapid turnaround times, improves access to test
results, and supports value-based care by allowing for faster diagnosis and treatment decisions.
Adding an Order

1. In the patients chart you will choose ‘ADD ORDER’ which is located towards the bottom left of the

2. A search box will open and you will enter KOH Prep

3. This will open a pop-up window and you will highlight CHG KOH PREP PROVIDER PERFORMED with Px Code
   87220.003 and accept

4. A pop-up window will appearin the bottom right corner showing your order. Clicking the star will add this order
   to your preference list for ease of ordering in the future. There will be additional fields to fill out when adding to
   your preference list including naming it if you desire.
