Chief Residency
A Chief Resident or Co-Chief Residents will be selected in the spring of the preceding academic year. The department recognizes the importance of the leadership and administrative responsibilities of this position and its importance to the strength and growth of the residency program. It is indeed a privilege and significant responsibility. The program welcomes any resident in their second year of training with interest in this position to submit a letter of interest and brief statement of their goals and ideas as it pertains to the position. The faculty will discuss this with the interested individual(s) and if there is more than one candidate, the faculty, with the input of the current residents, will select the Chief Resident. Once selected, the Chief Resident-elect will shadow the current outgoing Chief during the month of May to become oriented to the demands and responsibilities of the position.
The newly selected Chief Resident will assume all responsibilities (schedules, curriculum, event planning, etc.) during the month of June during their PGY-3 year, thru the end of May of their PGY-4 year. See Appendix L for list of Chief duties.
