American Academy of Dermatology (AAD)

Second-year residents are permitted to attend four days (Friday-Monday, weekends inclusive) of the annual American Academy of Dermatology meeting. Second-years are expected to return to work on Tuesday morning.

Third-year residents are allowed to be excused 4 days (weekends inclusive) to attend the meeting (Thursday through Tuesday) and expected to return to work the following Wednesday morning.

All residents are required to submit a poster presentation and an oral presentation, which may include the Gross & Microscopic Symposium, to be eligible for financial support.

Airfare and hotel expenses are partially covered by an educational grant from the AAD.  The residents must take advantage of the grant from the AAD and adhere to its specific requirements.  In addition to the AAD grant, the department will provide a maximum $1,500 reimbursement to cover educational meeting costs such as food, registration and class fees, and poster or presentation-related expenses.  Note that this amount can fluctuate based on SSM rules and spending policies.

The Residency Program Director must approve any other time in excess of the above excused day policy and these will be considered additional conference/vacation days within year allotmen****t.  See Additional Meeting Attendance section for information on these conference time away policies.
