Academic/Administrative Time
Resident academic time is scheduled each Thursday morning from 8 a.m. to noon, when most department lectures and conferences are generally held. Remaining time on Thursday mornings is utilized for resident education and administrative activities such as lectures, resident meetings, working on research projects, developing posters, and presentations.
Additional academic/administrative time is available during some clinical rotations and is scheduled, as available, with a minimum of 26 administrative ½ days per resident per year. Note that doctor visit/ appointments are tracked as they are counted as administrative time.
Administrative/academic time is not to be confused with a vacation day and cannot be requested with program leadership. Residents are expected to be in town should an issue arise and you are needed to cover a clinic. Note that admin time can be revoked with little notice if needed. This circumstance is avoided when possible, but know this is a possibility.
